Ranch Location

This ranch is located in the beautiful Pahsimeroi Valley, in Custer County, Idaho. It is located off of Highway 93. It is about 30 minutes from Challis, Idaho, the county seat. It is 60 minutes from Salmon, Idaho, in Lemhi County. Either of these towns provide amenities and airports.

Ranch Acreage

The ranch consists of 628+/- acres. It is close to where the Pahsimeroi River converges with the Salmon River. This area is growing in recreational use and popularity and is becoming known as the backyard of Salmon and Sun Valley. Both Custer and Lemhi counties are over 90% federally owned. Lemhi county borders Montana and is part of the Continental Divide. TOPOGRAPHY: This beautiful ranch is nestled in the Pahsimeroi Valley that sits between the upper portions of the majestic Lost River Range and Lemhi Mountain Range. These ranges hold some of the most rugged mountains of all Idaho, including Mount Borah, Idaho?s tallest mountain. The Challis National Forest and Salmon National Forest ring the valley. The ranch is mostly comprised of irrigated crop land and meadow pasture that blend with brush and trees along the river. The ranch has over a half mile of Pahsimeroi River frontage. A small portion of the ranch lies in the river?s flood plain.

Ranch Water

There are 441? acre of water rights through the Pahsimeroi River and Mud Spring Creek, via a diversion ditch, according to the seller. The irrigation water is put on via flood irrigation on the meadow pasture and 6 pivots for the cropland. The 2 Zimatic pivots are nearly new and the other 4 Valley pivots are in good condition. There are several small spring fed ponds. There is a domestic well currently used for stock water. Its depth is 164 feet, it runs 20 GPM, static water level is 95 feet. Ranch Operation

OPERATION: The ranch currently runs cattle and is growing alfalfa and grass hay. Seller feels this ranch can run 500 head for 6 months depending on management ability and mother nature. The seller says they average 4 ton a year on the alfalfa and get 2-3 cuttings a year. Seller says other crops that could be grown include oats, barley, wheat, and other grain crops. SOIL: According to the NRCS and USDA, five soil types are found on this property to include: Bigrant - Thosand - Dickeypeak complex, 0-4 percent slopes - This soil has a land capability classification as follows Bigrant - 4w, Thosand - 5w, Dickeypeak - 6s. Major land use are irrigated pastureland, and rangeland. Bursteadt - Tohobit complex, 0-3 percent slopes - This soil has a land capability classification as follows Bursteadt - 3w, Tohobit - 4w. Major land use are irrigated hay land and pastureland, and rangeland. Fezip - Lemroi - Redfish complex, 0-2 percent slopes - This soil has a land capability classification as follows Fezip - 5w, Lemroi - 4w, Redfish - 5w. Major land use are irrigated pastureland, and rangeland. Ringle gravelly loam, 2-8 percent slopes - This soil has a land capability classification as follows 4s irrigated and 7s non-irrigated. Major land use are irrigated pastureland, cropland, hay land, and rangeland. Snowslide gravelly loam, dry, 1-10 percent slopes - This soil has a land capability classification as follows 7e non-irrigated. Major land use is rangeland.

Ranch Recreation

With the Pahsimeroi River winding along the ranch it makes excellent hunting ground for elk, deer, antelope, turkey, pheasant, duck, and geese. The river has good, Rainbow Trout fishing. This ranch also provides opportunities for other bird and wildlife viewing such as hawks, eagles, beaver, otter, and fox. With the BLM land being contiguous to the ranch it is great for horse back riding, four-wheeling, and hiking. With over 90% of the county being owned by the federal government, there are numerous hunting, fishing, and recreation opportunities. RECREATION IN AREA: The contiguous BLM land also provide hunting for elk, deer, antelope, pheasant, chukar, sage hens and grouse. The nearby Lost River Range and Lemhi Range - provide hunting and wildlife viewing for bear, cougar, elk, big horn sheep, mountain goat, moose, elk, deer, antelope, turkey, pheasant, chukar, sage hens, and grouse; as well as many other wildlife species. These majestic mountain also provide opportunities for rock climbing, backpacking, hiking, trail-riding, camping and much more. The Salmon River is just a little over five miles from the ranch and provides more hunting for duck and geese as well as fishing for Rainbow Trout, Chinook Salmon, and Steelhead. Not a hunter or fisher there other recreational activities to be found on the river such as wildlife viewing, boating, kayaking, white water rafting, and swimming. Salmon, Idaho is home to the Sacajawea Interpretive Culture and Education Center. Sun Valley, Idaho is under 3 hours from the ranch and provides resort accommodations, as well as being known for its winter activities such as skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. This is also a well established arts community and has many opportunities to view galleries, exhibitions, concerts, dance and theater productions, and festivals.
